Uganda Christian University staff go jobless amidst COVID19 pandemic

Staff at Uganda Christian University are to become jobless after the Christian university noted that it will not go on with them, this has come after the outbreak of the pandemic.


In a note dated 22nd May, the university chancellor Rev Canon Dr. John Ssenyonyi said that the institution had been affected by the pandemic and that it’s staff with contracts will be suspend with effect 1st June. But for the employees that on full employment will have to get 75% of their monthly salary for the month of May on each of their contracts respectively.

“UCU will pay salaries for the month of May and this will be to all members of staff that are on full time employment at a rate of 75% of what is due to each of them will be able to be paid” said the Vice chancellor in the note.

UCU is the not the higher institution to fall victim of the pandemic, it’s also noted that Islamic university in Uganda (IUIU) also suspended its staff after the break down of the pandemic.

This has come after the President warned employers on suspending their workers because of the outbreak of the pandemic.
